My two great loves have always been animals and art and I have pursued both throughout my life. I was born in England into an army family and spent years of my childhood in Cyprus, Nigeria and Germany. After attending art school, I emigrated to Sydney, Australia and there I raised my two children while working as a qualified veterinary nurse. A job I loved. I returned home to England in 2019 and live in the beautiful Kent countryside with my husband, who is a writer, and the pets I adopted whilst nursing.
While in Australia I sought out different ways to express myself artistically but I have always returned to the simple pencil. With graphite pencils I honed my skills drawing the animals I loved most, my own pets. My drawing took on another dimension altogether when I braved the world of coloured pencils and started taking on all creatures great and small. Since arriving home in England, having taken up my pencils full time, I have been creating realistic and highly detailed portraits of animals, capturing their unique, wonderful personalities for clients. I have always thought of my pets as members of the family and have been an advocate for animal welfare all my life. I honour this by giving all of myself to each and every portrait. So much so, I ultimately end up feeling quite an attachment to the much loved animal I am drawing. My hope is this bond, along with my love of animals, is conveyed in the finished artwork.
